Education Week on the Web -- Online version of "Teacher Magazine.

New York Times Education Section -- Free but requires registration on first visit.  National coverage of education issues.

US Department of Education "News and Events" -- Speeches, press releases, updates on department initiatives, etc.

Early Childhood Resources

National Institute for Early Education Research: According to Choice Magazine.."The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER), based at Rutgers University.  It supports early childhood education by providing "objective, nonpartisan information based on research." The home page contains a wide selection of information that, like the whole site, is easy to read and navigate. Sections on the home page are expanded by selecting links on seven tabs--News and Events, Media Center, Browse Research, Publications, Facts and Figures, State Yearbook, and About NIEER--and their dropdown menus. Among the impressive features is a contact information list of experts in the field." Sept.2009

The internet sources include: General Educational sources; Lesson Plan websites; Reading Material Websites; E-Journals; Government sites; English as a Second Language Sites (ESL); and Educational News sites.

General Sites

  • Blue Web'n -- Lessons, activities, projects, resources, references and tools for K-12 teachers. 
  • CRLT (Center for Research on Teaching and Learning) -- University of Michigan directory of Web sites.
  • Education World -- News, curriculum, lesson plans, technology & school issues for K-12 teachers.
  • Librarians Index to the Internet - Education -- Links to information ranging from Basic Education to Tests.
  • K-12 School Pioneer -- log on to Utah's Online Library for K-12. Must have login password for this site.
  • EduHound -- Everything from clipart to news. Administration to Lesson Plans and conferences.
  • PBS Teachers -- Videos, lesson plans, materials for various subjects.
  • Enchanted Learning -- An excellent site for teachers, parents, and students. It has many pictures and activities and resources. This site is either a free site or a paid subscription site.
  • The Classroom -- Various links to online references at all levels, primary as well as secondary.
  • Thinkfinity -- Offers a diverse range of K-12 teaching and learning resources, including lesson plans.

Government Resources

English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • Online Directory of ESL Resources -- Database of ESL-related educational resources from various U. S. government agencies.
  • TESOL Connects! -- Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages professional association.
  • Six Steps to ELL Lesson Design -- "Classroom teachers across the country are struggling to find ways to meet the needs of non-English, limited English, and proficient English speakers within a single curriculum. This often calls for adaptation of existing lessons or the creation of new materials, tasks that are often challenging and time consuming."

Math Education

  • National Council of Teachers of Mathematics: Colorful and easy to use site contains an abundance of resources for mathematics educators at all levels. Lesson plans, job postings, grant notices, conferences, and many more.
  • Education World: Math: Has Lesson plans, resources, teaching ideas for student of all levels.
  • Math for America: "We are a private nonprofit organization with a mission to improve math education in secondary public schools in the United States by recruiting, training, and retaining outstanding mathematics teachers." Also provides resources and information for middle school and high school teachers.
  • The Math Forum at Drexel: Resource for math students in grades 3-12. Offers lessons, problems and puzzles, video, instructional tools and more.
