Refers to the process in scholarly, academic, scientific, or refereed journals where articles are evaluated by experts in the field prior to publication.  Common characteristics:

      qualifications listed

·         In-Text Citations &

      Bibliography

·         Length of article

·         Formal tone and format

·         Research results –

      original research

 

Hint:  Make sure you use primary research.  Don’t use a quote from an article cited within another article (known as an indirect or secondary citation); you must go back to the original article.

 Periodical Subscriptions: Through our databases, we have access to hundreds of full-text and thousands of indexed periodicals about education.  However, we also have a sampling of print subscriptions so students can familiarize themselves with the format and content of scholarly journals and trade publications in the area of communication.  Print titles that specifically relate to communication studies include:
